March 2017

This second attempt at the first rideout of the month thankfully saw a big improvement in the weather. A decent number of riders turned up for the ride which took us through some interesting roads via Knighton and Clun, stopping at the Elan Valley visitors centre for lunch .
The afternoon stop was at Devils Bridge cafe with a further brief stop at McDonalds in Newtown where the official ride ended. Typically there was a small amount of rain but not enough to dampen the spirits of our hardy riders.

April 2017

This months rideout commenced at the Ponderosa Cafe on the Horseshoe Pass travelling via Bala to Tanygrisiau cafe for lunch. After lunch the group headed towards Caernarfon through the welsh hills and lakes stopping for afternoon tea at the Caffi Caban Cafe. The last leg of the trip finished at the Rhug Cafe on the A5 from where members made their own way home.
The weather was excellent, a tad cool to begin with but soon warmed to a sub tropical 15 degrees.

May 2017

This months well attended rideout was led by Mark and Tina Kelly and explored some new roads in Mid-Wales. The route took us via Clun, on to Builth Wells and to Machynlleth for lunch. After lunch we meandered through more interesting roads around Newtown, Welshpool and back to Dinkies for coffee.
No riders were lost during the ride although in fairness a few were misplaced for a while.

It was the turn of our Training Officer Stuart McMillan to lead the ride today. All started well with sunshine, a good turnout and some new faces to the group. The planned coffee stop was Shobdon Airfield in Leominster near Hereford. By this time the clouds had arrived an some rain had been experienced.
After regrouping and taking coffee we headed towards Bringsty Cafe at Bromyard for lunch. The last session was a gentle bimble toward Bridgnorth where we partook of yet more coffee before the journey home.

July 2017

A good turnout for this months ride with again more fresh faces wanting to explore the delights of advanced riding. Paul led us through the traditional twists and turns towards Knighton for morning coffee then on to Dom's Bike Stop in Leominster for lunch.
The weather was kind to us and we basked in sunshine with near tropical temperatures throughout the day, well it did reach around 22°C .
Having cleverly avoided the 60 mile diversion around Onibury, afternoon tea was at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre at Craven Arms.
Regrettably we were so engrossed in honing our riding skills that we completely overlooked our photography needs so no slide show this month.
This months 'Guess The Mileage' competition was won by a visitor to the ride Keith Taylor who only missed the total mileage of 148 miles by 1. Keith has been contacted.

August 2017

Around 22 Bikes turned out for this months ride which was a rerun of last years attempt that suffered a Welsh tempest and had to be abandoned half way. Having set off on a cloudy morning but safe in the knowledge that the BBC weather app forecast a cloudy but dry day things went well as we headed via Lake Vrynwy towards the Railway Station at Bala for morning coffee. Before the coffee cups were empty a noticeable drizzle was felt, not to be deterred we headed northwards towards Lake Brenig for lunch. By this time the drizzle had subsided and although the wind was picking up it remained dry. Dry that was until we were ready to mount up and continue over some high ground through fields of heather towards Llanrwst by which time the drizzle had changed to rain and visibility was around 30 metres.
After refuelling the bikes the decision was taken to return to Bala by the most direct route which should have been a spectacularly scenic route over another mountain. Such a shame that we could not see far enough to enjoy it.

The guess the mileage competition was won by David Rogers who was closest to the original planned mileage of 171 miles.

October 2017

11 bikes and 12 members attended this months ride which was a fairly short one due to the afternoon AGM. The route went East for a change to avoid the threatened wet front moving in from the West. The group traveled via Newport, Stafford, Uttoxeter, Ashbourne and on to Carsington Water for lunch. Although the skies were very cloudy for most of the day the roads dried and an enjoyable ride was had by all. A small shower as we arrived back to Shrewsbury for the AGM did not seem to dampen spirits.

The guess the mileage competition was won by Mark Kelly who was closest to the original planned mileage of 136 miles.

November 2017

This months ride was led by Phil Noble who chose the scenic route to Newton for a comfort break then on to Crossgates for lunch. The original plan was a trip over the mountains but in view of the weather and potential road conditions it was decided to change the route for more suitable roads. After lunch Phil led the group via Clun and back to Montford Bridge.

The guess the mileage competition was won by Bryan Murphy who was closest to the route mileage of 107 miles.

A short video of riders leaving Montford Bridge is available on our Facebook page
