TRAINING

When riding, do you ever find yourself: -

•Having to brake sharply?
•Creeping above the speed limit?
•Riding too close to the vehicle ahead?
•Feeling anxious, tense or intimidated?
•Regretting what you’ve just done?

If so, maybe you too could benefit from advanced training.

Why Advanced Riding?
Every day we choose to ride our bikes without giving any additional thought to the fact that it may be one of the most dangerous things that we will do in that day. We make up only 1% of road users but we account for 20% of road deaths!

The Aim of Shropshire and Powys Advanced Riders (SAPAR) is to reduce motorcycle accidents by encouraging an interest in road safety, and improving riding standards, knowledge and skill. In order to do this SAPAR will provide free training to help you improve your riding skills and prepare you to take the Ultimate Advanced Test. We hope to help anyone who is interested in improving the standard of their motorcycle riding. An Advanced rider is equipped with the knowledge and skill to ride safely and effectively in all conditions.

Training is provided by SAPAR Tutors who are all volunteers. We do ask that you make a contribution to fuel costs. Our Tutors have a wide range of experience and a deep love of motorcycling. They have many years of riding experience and have a proven track record of taking riders through their RoSPA test. Please note that there can sometimes be a delay in the allocation of Tutors to Associate (Trainee) Members. The training is based on the Roadcraft System as taught to Police Riders. The "System", when applied to every hazard you encounter will allow you to anticipate and control situations to reduce your accident risk. Your initial membership fee includes the required books and practical training (usually around 12 hours) to enable you to reach the standard required to take the RoSPA Advanced Riders test.

The Test is graded at Bronze, Silver or Gold.
The Gold Award is recognised as the highest riding award available to the public, and is only awarded to the polished systematic rider, but all these awards shows a commitment to your own skills and safety.
